Kids Furniture Essentials

By Forschler's Home Center

Parents always want to give only the best to their little ones, even if sometimes it implies spoiling them! But what if they could spoil their kids with fair long-lasting “tangible assets” for many years? Yes, you guessed right: Kids’furniture is a long lasting “capital good” which can endure for years! But, how to choose “the” furniture that will fit perfectly in your kids’ room?
First, you have to think practical while choosing the furniture designs. You don’t have to follow your kids’ fancy ideas as they might change very often; instead, you should opt for long, safe and functional furniture that will grow with them.

3 things are essentials in a kid’s bedroom:
1-      bed
2-      dresser
3-      nightstand or a desk depending on the age

1-  The masterpiece of the room : the bed

Choose the type of bed that will last until your kid becomes a teen. Full or twin size bed?  It’s only a slight difference in width! A full size bed is 15 inches wider than a Twin; yet, as a twin bed is longer it is a great asset for taller kids!

Loft beds are great for storage or for friends sleeping over….

 So are Bunk beds ….

and trundle beds!

2-  The ultimate place for clothes storage: the dresser

Buy a dresser that matches the bed. You can even choose a dresser with a mirror incorporated and add other cabinets if needed as time goes by and your kids grow.

3-  Nightstand

Get the nightstand that goes with the bed and dresser, where you could put a lamp and books. It’s always nice to have a complete set and besides, you will get a good price for it too!

Finally, let yourself go and follow your kid’s creativity with decor by adding rugs, matching lights and bedding that reflects their personality.

The most important factor in choosing your kid’s furniture is to make sure their bedroom is a “haven”, where they will have fun and feel comfortable!

Ideas for Valentine’s Day!

By Forschler's Home Center

Valentine’s Day is coming… This could be the worst day if you are one of those who have been desperately looking for a soulmate or can’t stand to be alone. Well, if you haven’t found a soulmate to take you out for a romantic dinner and don’t know how to spend it, here are some great suggestions! In a couple or as a single, it’s doesn’t matter; Valentine’s Day should be the day to show the most of your love. We can start by showing love to someone around us (family, friends, pets…). This year, Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend, so you shouldn’t run out of time and wind up organizing something at the last minute. Here are some original ideas to show your love:

Host a brunch! Invite all your beloved ones- family and/or friends to share the first meal of the day. It is always easier to organize a last-minute brunch- no need to cook a huge variety of dishes, that way you save time on grocery shopping. Besides, most of the time you already have the majority of the ingredients at hand in your home (coffee, tea, eggs, flour, tomato, bacon and bread!)

Our special, for ladies ….Take time to pamper the ones that carried you before you were walking- your Feet! Organize a pedicure or spa afternoon with your friends. On the agenda, you can expect: a relaxing moment, some pedicure/foot massage with almond oil and lots of laughs.

Activities with Kids. Bake cookies that they can share with their friends. Kids would love to decorate their cookies; a funny moment guaranteed!

End your day festively! Host a cocktail party at home with some friends. While drinking alcohol, don’t forget that you will be working the day after so drink moderately!

There are plenty other ways to celebrate love on Valentine’s Day…yet, you should try to extend them to the rest of year not only on the 14th. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Bookcase Arranging

By Forschler's Home Center

Here is a fact; everybody has books in their home! Whether you are a passionate reader, a book collector or a person who rarely reads; what do you do with these books? Where do you put them? Surely, we’ve all asked ourselves these questions at some point and came up with this conclusion. A Bookcase is the most appropriate furniture to organize them. It can actually bring a new look to your home!

Are there any rules for bookcases? No need to organize your books on shelves as if you are in a library unless you are a neat freak. Bookcase shelves can be unstructured masterpieces of furniture where you can also arrange home accents.

Here are some suggestions to make your bookcase multifunctional and stylish at the same time:

Be creative in your books arrangement!
Place some books horizontally and vertically on the shelves. Magazines and articles can also find some room on the shelves. You can also brighten your shelves by playing with the color of the books while placing them!

Don’t fall into the classic bookcase use…feel free to add home accents too! Now you can definitely display all of your little collectibles on the shelves. These items will give more perspective and depth to your bookcase; it will surely catch all your guests ‘eyes!

Open bookcase shelves can give a fresh and contemporary look to your room! Dare to innovate in choosing your bookcase.

In kids’ room, a bookshelf is a must-have for storage. Kids can arrange books and all their others unexpected items such as dolls, mega blocks or cars in baskets. It is also a great way for parents to teach them at a young age how to be organized, in hopes that they will apply it later on. As a short term solution, their room will stay tidy!

Ideas For Martin Luther King Holiday

By Forschler's Home Center

Everybody has dreams, right? And what if they come true? Martin Luther King Jr, a civil-rights activist had one some years ago, where all Americans, regardless of their background and cultural diversity would become equal.
As we celebrate Martin Luther King’s holiday on January 18th; we should continue to put this dream of a “better world” into practice by:

1-     Take the opportunity to give some of your time as a volunteer in citizen action groups

2-     Spend quality time with your family and kids. What a great lesson it is to teach them what this day symbolizes and have them share their own dreams!

3-     Bring a bit of culture diversity to your ears by going to live-music tributes or listen to readings!

4-     Watch parades or go to museum exhibits; most of them are free on that day!

5-     Make a holiday dinner featuring cuisine from different countries or regions.

Whether you're a dreamer or hope to achieve a cleaner environment, a better dish, or the perfect tea party, this holiday should inspire you to move forward with your aspirations. With or without kids, appreciate the most of the diversity on this day.

Happy Martin Luther King Holiday!

Time To Eat Smarter This Fall

By Forschler's

School’s in session and that means the daily ritual of filling the lunchbox is in full swing. Now might be the perfect time to reevaluate not only what you’re packing but what you’re packing it in.

Did You Know?
Over 20 million sandwich baggies are sent to our landfills every year, and each one takes between 500 to 1,000 years to break down

Americans throw away more than 60 million plastic water bottles per day

It’s as easy as 1-2-3 to find eco-friendly lunchbox alternatives that are safe for our kids and our planet.

Step 1 – Use BPA free, non-toxic containers and reusable baggies to fill their lunchbox with goodies they’re sure to love

Make this the year you stop throwing away all those plastic baggies. Invest just once in reusable products and save yourself money and guilt for years to come. Try getting a set for every member of the family and have fun packing your lunches together. Make sure you’re getting dishwasher safe products to make clean up easy and effective.

Step 2 – Mix it up! Start with deconstructing the sandwich

Sandwiches are OK in a pinch, but why not try putting something a little different in their lunch box this year? Pare the sandwich down to its essential elements and roll, wrap or chop them up in style! Mix and match foods to create fun shapes and combos that’ll have them emptying their lunchboxes in record time.

Homemade wraps

Sushi rolls

Lettuce wraps

Crackers and cheese

Apple slices and peanut butter

Veggies and dips

Laughing Cow cheese

Fun fruit shapes using cookie cutters

Frozen bananas sliced and sandwiched with peanut or almond butter

Step 3 – Drink Fix. Smart solutions to the water bottle crisis

Be the first cool parent to make the switch to eco-friendly reusable water bottles. It’s the easiest and most practical way to show kids how much you care about the planet and their future. With so many varieties to choose from, let everyone in your family pick out the one that reflects their unique personality.

Let's Bite Into Apple This Fall Season!

By Forschler's

Be it the shiny apple Mom routinely packed in your lunch box or fond memories of your great aunt’s famous apple pie, fall’s favorite fruit is a slice of nostalgia.

Simply delicious, apples offer a golden opportunity for culinary magic. Can you believe there are more than 7,500 apple varieties worldwide? Talk about mass appeal. With their cornucopia of color—from ruby red and mellow yellow to lime green—apples tempt with various tastes and textures, from crisp and tart, to subtle and sweet.

 Eye the Right Apple

Some apples are perfectly yummy right off the tree. Others hold up wonderfully in pies, crisps and baked goodies. A slice of advice from the experts:

Best for eating out of hand: Braeburn, Cameo, Cortland, Empire, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Honeycrisp, McIntosh.

Best for apple pies, crisps, etc: Braeburn, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gravenstein, Jonathan, Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, Newtown Pippin, Winesap
Tip: Pies and crisps, especially, call for sweet-tart, firmer apples that hold their shape and flavor in the oven. To mellow a tarter apple (e.g., Granny Smiths), try more than one apple variety in your pie.

Best for caramel apples: Tart Granny Smith apples have become the standard since they counter sweet caramel. Some folks find them a little too sour. Try the same apples recommended for pies for your caramel apples

Frown on Brown Apples

Yes it’s true, brushing on lemon juice does keep sliced apples from browning, as do other citrus fruits such as lime, orange and pineapple. To avoid any hint of citrus taste, soak apple slices in apple juice until ready to serve. Another option: Mix two tablespoons honey and one cup water. Soak apple slices in mixture for 30 seconds.

Labor Day Weekend: 3 Activities

by Forschler's Home Center

We all like long weekends, but sometimes we don’t know what to do. Labor Day is a perfect day to take a break from any work, including housework and laundry! Take time to rest a little and spend some quality time with friends and family. Here are some ideas for a successful long weekend:

Play outside!
Is the sun shining and is the weather good? Take advantage of this perfect combination to organize a game of soccer or baseball with people you like to be with. If you are not sport buffs, just take time to sit in the backyard and talk about your favorite movie or anything that pleases you and your guests!

Make a brunch!
We all love to spend a little more time in bed on weekend mornings. Of course, the best thing after that is a good brunch with pancakes and chocolate milk!

Do nothing!
Sometimes, the only thing that we want to do during a long weekend is nothing! Just hanging there with a cup of coffee; observe nature in your backyard; or sitting by the window and leaf through a book or a magazine. Take a deep breath and relax…
