For the perfect Staycation

Is money tight and you’re wracking your brain for vacation ideas this summer? Then don’t fret! We’ll help you think outside the box with creative ways to vacation on a budget. According to BuzzFeed, there are affordable spots where many budget travelers like to vacation. Some of them include Croatia, Macedonia, Istanbul and Vietnam! It seems that the food and accommodations will not break the bank! Obviously some places are further away than others, therefore budgeting your plane ticket as the bulk of your expenses will be necessary.

For some of us this is only but a dream. After a reality check, you can start planning your vacation close to home. Take it as an opportunity to enjoy the good outdoors, and go up north for a long weekend or create your very own retreat right in your backyard. Here are some options you can do at home:

      1)      Create a campground
Who said camping in your backyard is no fun? Although you will not achieve a complete wilderness atmosphere, you may actually appreciate that you can run to the washroom at any given time or grab something you need inside your home. In fact, it will be especially convenient if you have small children!

First and foremost, begin by setting up your tents to accommodate the right number of people. Then, be sure to nestle the inside with comfortable bedding and pillows! Also, you can go the extra mile to create a realistic outdoorsy atmosphere by creating a campfire surrounded with benches – time for smores!

      2)      Your very own resort by the pool
For those of you with a pool, take advantage of being by the poolside to refresh yourself on hot days! Create a little haven either in the shade or below a gazebo. Use a collection of poufs to sit on, or some comfortable decorative pillows to maximize comfort on your outdoor furniture. That way you can have fun in the sun, or enjoy a refreshing drink in the shade. The choice is yours!

It’s a win-win. You save money, all while having fun. All in favor say “aye”!

Home Decor Ideas For Fall

by Forschler's Home Center

As the cold gusts of wind hit and temperatures drop, we know a new season has begun. Not to worry! Chase away the cold with a cozy decor that warms the soul.

Go Bold

Nothing says fall like bold colors. From emerald green and tangerine to canary yellow and deep berry; pick hues that depict the perfect autumn-inspired color-palette. Despite being bold, these colors are also suggestive of comfort and hearth, which will wrap your home in a soothing blanket of warmth.  There really is no need to purchase new furniture to keep up with current trends. You can simply introduce fall colors in small doses with accent such as decorative pillows, throws, rugs, ottoman and accent chairs. This is an easy and cost-effective solution.

Add Texture
Although color has a significant impact on fall trends, texture is also all the rage this season. Don’t be afraid to mix different textures, as it will be easy on the eyes and exciting to touch. Try pairing opposite textures such as a smooth and supple leather sofa with tweed pillows. Also, combine a fluffy down comforter with a tightly woven area rug. The idea is to create contrast both visually and to touch.

Introduce Glamour
A glamorous aesthetic is not about oozing with fancy. Forget about floor-to-ceiling rhinestones, mirrors and metallic! In fact, if you are aiming for a chic look this fall, understated elegance is your friend. How can you achieve this look without going over the top you might ask? Think button-tufted headboards, breakfront dressers and metallic picture frames. You can also attain an upscale look with the use of modern furnishings – their clean lines make them intrinsically elegant.

Break Out Your Fall Decor!
Last but not least, pulling out your fall decor is an irrefutable way to keep your home cozy and spark that holiday mood.  Keep it simple; include harvest colors and foliage. You can either buy or make your crafts with the use of pumpkins, candles, vases, leaves, fall vignettes, acorns, straw, baskets etc. Be creative and have fun with it!

Sleep Better With Our Tips

Wonder why you can’t sleep? The problem may be rooted in factors you may have never thought of. Get better sleep from our 10 sleep tips.

1. GET BETTER SLEEP BY INVESTING IN YOUR COMFORT
Is your room comfortable? Whether that means splurging on egyptian cotton sheets, purchasing blackout curtains or picking the perfect mattress – investing in your comfort is a must for getting better sleep.

2. SLEEP ON A GOOD MATTRESS
Sleeping on a good mattress can make all the difference in getting better sleep. When you sleep on an uncomfortable bed, you are more likely to  shift your weight during sleep. This may create pressure on your shoulders, back and hips, preventing you from receiving restorative sleep.

Learn more about Ashley Furniture HomeStore’s mattress selection, to find the best mattress that suits your sleeping needs.

3. TURN OFF ELECTRONICS
Quiet the room. Turn off the TV and give that laptop a break! Research suggests that media use before bedtime interferes with getting better sleep.

4. MANAGE STRESS
Get organized, set priorities and delegate tasks. List what’s on your mind before trying to sleep and set it aside for the next day.

5. CONTROL ALLERGIES
Use mattress and pillow covers to keep allergens, such as pet dander and dust mites at bay. Get a vacuum or air purifier with a HEPA filter and replace the air filter in your furnace monthly.

6. WATCH WHAT YOU EAT & DRINK
Enjoy a healthy snack an hour before bed. Avoid sleeping on a full stomach. Limit how much you drink so you won’t have to use the restroom. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.

7. CREATE A BEDTIME RITUAL
Get in bed and wake up at the same time each day. Before sleep, take a warm bath or shower, read a book or listen to soothing music. Once you figure out a routine, stick to it – even on weekends!

8. EXERCISE
Do physical activities early in the day to enhance your ability to fall asleep fast and get better sleep. Don’t exercise close to bedtime because you may get too energized.

9. DAYLIGHT MATTERS
Use bright lights or sunlight during the day to manage your circadian rhythms (or body clock). Enjoy sunlight in the morning and avoid bright light in the evening.

10. SET THE SCENE

Keep the room cool between 65°F and 75°F and use room darkening shades. Spritz your pillow with a mix of lavender, chamomile or ylang-ylang oil drops and water.
